Double valve spring \"interference\"
20 Mar 2006 09:27
1976 kz900. lapped the valves a couple of weeks ago and reassembled using new seals. When reassembling, I used some newer outer springs as they had a little more height to them.
However, noticed that a couple of the inner springs were a very slight interference fit inside the outer springs. I could push them in just using my fingers but wondered if it could be a problem that these inner & outer springs will rub togeter?
Thanks.

Never seen that on a KZ900 oem spring. Ususlly the inners fall right thru. Aftermarket performance springs usually are interference fit.

Jay,
It was only the outers I replaced so maybe they were indeed aftermarket? However, from your reply, it sounds as though I'm going to be ok with the little bit of interference I've now got.
Thanks.
