73' 900 cc engine.....basket case build
*
Installing the cams but do not know how to figure out which size of shim to use for a starting base before I begin to remeasure and install correct size shim?

I will need to find some shims *(purchased engine without)* .....but again not sure what shims to install first?

I did read that the manual insists on NOT turning engine over without shims installed:ohmy:

Hope this question makes sense and Thankyou for any help available.....:cheer:

not sure what Plummen said in his PM, but he has done it many times.
you can purchase shims from z1, and the tool to change them out also,
if not covered, start with the smallest shim and you can figure out what size you will need from there, FSM has a chart in it also, and its prob on the site someplace.

BTW guys & gals, something interesting regarding shims I just came across....

KZ shims are 29mm in diameter... Just completed my 1500 mile check up and required a couple of shims I of course didn't have. Called around local shops... nope but I can order for $12 each. Can get them for $5.85 @ Z1...

Damn, well I came across a Triumph shop that also services Kawi's... The reply is "Nope, no KZ shims but I do have Triumph shims that are also 29mm..."

OMR thinks to himself...hmmm...On my way with my caliper and a KZ shim for comparisons....

Compare and measure, wholly poo-poo Batman, they're the same! B) :woohoo: and he only charged me $6 each!

Old girl is back on the road! :cheer:
