kz650 wont run unless choke fully on

Hello,

The last few days I have been having a problem with my bike.

Bike in question. 1977 KZ650B. I have pod filters on it and bigger jets.

The temperature around here has been hovering between 0 and 5 degrees Celsius (32 to 41F).

I can get the bike started (despite having to crank it for almost 20 seconds sometimes), but I can ride for 20 minutes with the choke all the way on, but the second I take it off even a little bit, the bike dies, or if it doesnt, I have not nearly enough power to get me moving.

I had the carbs cleaned and synced this year. Everything had been working perfectly up until recently.

The points are still in brand new condition, I have brand new coils, wires, and plugs on.

Does the temperature have something to do with this? Is there water in my gas tank maybe?

Any ideas would be great. Thanks!

drain the gas out of your carbs if there is anything wierd in them you will see it if you put a bowl under the drain lines. it sounds like something is plugging your pilot jets or passages.

That is a likely possibility I suppose! I neglected to put an in-line filter in!

then it could be happening my little drag bike has a seam in the fuel tank that has developed some rust i use russel fuel filters in line but they can't get every thing after about 4 passes i have to pull my carbs and clean out the rust particles that have gotton thru.it does the same thing as your describing. fixing the tank this winter by the way.

Let us know how the tank fix goes. I think Im going to have mine cleaned out professionally.

I just pulled off the carbs, and took of both the main and pilot jets. There is some sorta light blue-ish crystals clogging everything up real good. Ill make sure to clean it up real nice, hopefully all good after that.

i figured it was something like that drain your tank completly and see if you can find the cause. goodluck.

Nope, the bike ran fine for weeks.

When I got the bike the jets had been upped but someone put on the stock breathing element, so I figured since the big jets were already in there, I might aswell put on the filters.

But it did run just lovely for weeks.

Well i ride when it is that cold here I don't have pods but have 17.5 pilot jets works fine
