don't put anything on it no sealer is needed. if you want to make it so that you can reuse it dab a bit of grease on the gasket surface then it wont stick to the head or valve cover.

Make sure you make it so it releases from the cylinder head, because you might booger it up with the prybar and such that comes with the valve shim tool kit.

When i reuse a very old cam cover gasket i use schellic. A very old school product.

I coat one side and the next day turn it over and coat the other side. Roy

Stick it to the cam cover side. Spray the cam cover side with Permatex copper gasket sealer and lightly grease the head side. That's how I re use mine.
I like my aluminum Klasmo cam end plugs. A worthy investment.

There's differing views on this as with everything. The way I've done it is to put a little Yamabond #4 or equiv, on the top of the cam end plugs extending just a little ways out onto the aluminum. This makes sure your end plugs are sealed to the gasket and the gasket if you're careful will stay on the head where you want it and stay aligned. The differing of opinion is if you want the gasket to come off with the cover or stay on the head. Taking it off with the cover most likely it will snag on the top idler sprocket ruining it. Chances of ruining it with it stuck to the head is minimal if care is used, so that's my advice, keep the gasket on the engine and remove the cover. I reuse gaskets indefinately this way. Guys that have valve cover gaskets leak must really have some bad luck or do something really wrong as I've been known to tear a gasket in two, stick a glob of Yamabond #4 on the tear, reuse it and it still seals fine every time.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

that yamabond or its new equivalent works great....3bond 1194 or something like that...i use it on my end plugs ....i have one of those vdo oil press guages i bought on ebay, thing leaked at every connection no matter how much i tightened them...took it apart , put the 3 bond on all connections and not a leak since...put it on th rear cyl studs after i cinched them down as per manual....not a leak anywhere with that stuff....best stuff i have ever used
for oil retention and sealing....thanks for input....
