Have seen engines all chomed up, and have seen the aluminum on clutch, chain, stator, timing covers all buffed out and polished up , can you do the same thing and get the same results on the stock valve covers, are they aluminum, have seen valve covers that look chome but don't think the old Kaws came out with them, Any help ? thanks Duke

Nothing on the motor, except the starter cover, came chrome from the Kawasaki factory (maybe the KZ1000G1 had some extra chroming, don't recall). Aftermarket, many parts were available chromed. If I recall correctly, the early attempts at chroming were crude and although they initially looked good, would corrode, stain and peel. This apparently had to do with the actual chroming process. Later chroming techniques were greatly improved and the chrome finish holds up much better and longer. With enough effort, aluminum motor cover can be made to glisten like chrome...the trick is owning an electric buffing wheel (not a hand held one), getting a series of polishing compounds (readily available) and practice.
