Clutch recommendations? was created by likes2gofast2009
Lookin to get a better performing clutch. Bike will still be strictly street, but looking for something that doesn't heat up after one launch... Bike is an '80 KZ1000 LTD. Only mods are 4-1 kerker and dyna coils, coming this winter, jets, pods and clutch.

What do yall think about this www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=172 any other suggestions?

I've had god luck with Barnett clutches in both of my Kawasaki's (77 Kz1000 then, 82 GPz1100 now) but used for street riding not track use. You might think about getting the needle bearing clutch pusher installed as long as your clutch cover and clutch will be open.

Wha't the matter with your clutch that you want to change?
If you're looking for an opinion: stick with OEM fibres or the ones FBG sell, beadblast your steels & make sure they're flat and check your clutch springs, including the ones in the back of the basket.I have never met anyone who liked the APE or Barnett clutches and one of my old friends works at Barnett and I could get super deals for my own use...Strictly my.02,ymmv.

It just seems like I can't launch hard without it heating up and being really soft in the rest of the gears till it cools back down

The clutch shown above is absolutely the best you can put in your bike. There are literly thousands in use. It will probably be the last clutch you buy for your bike.

Have you checked to see if the plates are glazed? How much are you slipping the clutch on launch? How many miles are on the clutch...have you checked their thickness?

How easy is it to install? Pretty much throw it in and use that kit that they recommend? Is it a wet clutch like the original?
