Shifts up, not down. was created by CoMIYC
Hi all:

Been a while since I've been on here, but finally got my 75 Z1 goin' :woohoo:

Got a strange problem. The bike wil shift up one and back. I.e. if I shift into 3rd I can shift to 2nd but not to first. Same goes for all the way to 5th will shift to 4rth but no lower.:S

I've taken the shifter side apart twice and with the output cover off I can shift up and down. Once I'm riding no luck. I've had the centrifugal bearings out for 20 years so I don't suspect that is a problem ;)

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hi TB

Not sure which spring you mean, but all three seem to be ok.
I'll be tearing her down this morning and try to figure it out again.

Hi all!

Sorry I didn't get back here sooner, but we got 'er all ironed out. :woohoo:

Spring item 5 in the picture was the culpret.

I put a spring from the wrong model bike and it was too lite to hold the return hook in the proper upper location for shifting down  :S

I'll be getting the fresh pictures up of the old bike soon.

Thanks everyone.
