Engine cutting out on acceleration from low RPMs

I've noticed an odd problem with my 79 KZ1000 in the past month. Sometimes when accelerating hard from low RPMs (2500 or so) the engine will reach around 3500 RPMs and misfire, almost like a cylinder didn't hit, and the bike will jerk fairly hard. It almost feels like the clutch lets go for a second and engages, but I doubt this is the problem since the engine cuts out. The bike runs fine for the most part, but I notice this problem once out of every few times I ride. It has stock coils, and someone spliced some Taylor wires onto it. I soldered the wires together to ensure a good connection, but I'm starting to wonder how well this setup is really working. I'd like to put some new coils and electronic ignition on it someday, but I am not sure if this is even the problem. Any suggestions on what it could be? Thanks!

When my coils on my z1 were starting to go out a few years ago i had the same problem. All was fine until the bike warmed up then it would cut out really bad. Perhapse were they spliced into the wires is breaking down? I put in new dyna coils, and i upgraded to the dyna-s over the winter, and it was a night and day difference, along with the wiredgeorge coil mod.

I've had this problem as well. It was origional coils too.
