Hey, lets say I check my bikes timing with the strobe light, and my timing is off. Do you just turn the pickup coils to adjust it?

you have to check timing for both sets of points use the f mark for your test there are a couple threads here that have a little more detail just do a quick search for them

The pickups are on a timing plate, which, theoretically, should rotate in order to adjust the timing. However, in the U.S., the timing plate mounting holes don't have slots, so the plate can't be rotated.

To fix that, you have to remove the timing plate and file the mounting holes into slots. If it's really far off, there is probably some other problem.

The pickups have magnets which must be installed in a particular fashion in order to work. If you remove the pickups in order to prevent the filings from sticking to the pickups, remember how the magnets went on so you can put them back exactly the same way.

Another thing you can do to adjust the timing is to pull off the iron pointer-slug from the rotor shaft and put it back on in a different orientation. This has to be done very carefully so as to not damage the pointer or the shaft.
