Simple question.

I bought a new alternator coveer off ebay....nice and shiney. Will it be as simple as taking the screws out and replacing the new cover? No surprises, the cover will just come off, eh? 78 650B.

I'm not 100% sure with a 650 but I think the answer is no. The alternator cover has the stator attached to it on the inside. There are also wires that pass through a rubber grommet. To disconnect these wires which run to you reg/rec you will have to remove the the sprocket cover also. If the 650 is anything like a 1000 you will also have to remove shift lever, peg mount bracket and starter cover. None of it is hard to do. Oh, if the new cover didn't come with a stator you'll have to swap yours over.

Still simple though, even with the alternator inside.
