if the engine run's well and just makes abit of cam chain noise do a full tune-up on it adjust valve clearances readjust the cam chain tensioner readjust your timing if it has electronic if points ignition clean and regap the points check for pitting on the contacts if any found get new condensers and points or switch to a dyna s electronic ignition also if you have points ignition still set the dwell angle to about 45 degrees they seem to runthe best there. but electronics are way easier set them and forget them last but not least do a proper carb sync and most of your small noises should go away. by the way i got carried away welcome we need pictures

Thanks, i will do the tune up as you suggest, i was thinking of switching to electronic ignition anyway, so i will do that at the same time,i adjusted the cam chain but it still sounds a bit noisier than i was expecting, this is my first 4 stroke, as i am a long time Kawi triples guy originaly, so i am not sure what to listen for.
Don't worry about getting carried away, i appreciate all the knowledge, i will upload some pic's later today. I bought the bike from Johnny's Vintage Kawasaki in Ohio last week, had the original pipes put on, it appears to be in original condition so i have a good base to start with.

Welcome Kawikid...if your bike didn't come with a genuine Kawasaki shop manual...buy one...as was mentioned, we love photos. :)

Hi Kid,

My KZ900 will make some cam chain noise when it's too cold to run smoothly. If it quites down once warm everything's fine.
