kz650 will not idle was created by KZ1R1000
My question is my kz650 will not idle. When I put the choke on and start it goes right to 6 grand turn choke off and she dies out.I changed carbs to 29 smooth bores and still doing the same thing. The smooth bores work fine on my 900.I am running 26mm carbs on the 650, could it just be that i need to rejet it?
Any help would be appreciated.

how long has this been doing this and are you sure your getting full fuel flow to the carb's also do you have the proper amount of freeplay in your throttle cables.

I'm thinking the same as TB, two sets of carbs doing the exact same thing...

Naw, I don't bye that...
Cables or petcock is where I'd start looking deeper...

 Throttle cable frayed or maladjusted or kinked in routing?

 Timing advancer malfunctioning?

 Air leak in carb holder area?

Have you tried an intermediate setting on the choke lever?
Like 1/4 or 1/2 or something?

I had something similar, I'm guessing your throttle cable is set wrong and not going all the way back (or closed).

My problem was the carb spring weakening over time. I hit the hip and spent way too much 40.00 for that stupid spring and it made all the difference in the world.

Also don't pull the petcock off, just pull the line and see if it runs out full or the diameter of the line.

Anywho check the throttle position, I'm sure that is your problem. Mine would start up hit 4 to 5k and I would have to shut it off.

Let me get this clear. It dies once you turn the choke off right? If so it won't be a sticking throttle cable. Have you checked the idle adjuster?

Idle adjuster... did that on a CB360T. Startled me so bad it slapped the needle all the way around the tach before I could find the kill.
