Pull the oil pan and see if it's in the pan if not use a air blower and see if it drops. Welcome to the site too.

If it doesn't appear in the oil pan, then get a good flashlight and see if you can see it...fish around with a small magnet (cheap at an autoparts store) on a collapsible wand. You should be able to pull it out :)

I dropped a phillips head bit down in mine when I had the head off last year. Got it out with the collapsible wand that Mcdroid mentioned. Took a little while but it worked. If it never, next step was pan removal.

Best of luck.

Stop, before you drop the oil pan try this:

Try to fish it out with a long magnet. If that does not work, drain out the oil.

then stick your magnet up into the drain hole.

Ideally, you will have a magnet that attracts from the side.

This exact same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago with the exact same part. I drained the oil out and it was right by the drain hole. I snagged it with the magnet. Saved me dropping the oil pan.

Let us know when you get it out what you did. :)

A friend dropped a cam end-cap down the chain tunnel and we fished it out. This was on a Suzuki 1100, but when I looked down the tunnel with a mirror, it didn't look like there were too many places it could go. The cain acts like two walls, and the cylinders acted like two walls, so it fell onto the crank timing gear and should be easy to get to with a magnet or grabber tool.

like everyone said try the magnet, my bike had one of those metal plates stuck to the cam chain drive sprocket on the crank. thus the 8 bent valves that i had to replace when i got the bike. good thing you caught that you droped it. if nothing else a pan gasket isent expensive.

I have done this and have had luck with a magnet. Earlier this year i couldn't fish it out and a friend sprayed carb cleaner in the engine. Oil was holding it on the side and when the sprayed the carb cleaner it fell out on the floor. Roy
