I recall the sequence, but not the specific torque specs.

Does anyone have their book laying around or know it by heart? I'd appreciate it.

Put your bike info in your signature. That makes it easier for others to help out. Some say its friendly also.

I think the torque specs on the cam cover is too high. my shop manual indicated it should be 96 in lb not 104.

At the higher level you risk stripping the bolts/holes.

Different motorcycles have different torque specs. What kind of motorcycle are you working on?

All the Kawi head specs I have seen were in the 27 - 33 FT-LB range. I recall the spec for cam cover bolts is about 100 inch-pounds, but a lot of people strip them. probably better to stay in the 60 - 70 I-P range.

I could be wrong, but I suspect the cylinder head tightening sequence differs depending on whether you have a 1 cylinder KZ200 or a 6 cylinder KZ1300. As I say, I could be wrong. Ed

Could've sworn i put all my info in my signature long ago. Anyway, there it is.

I ended up finding it. I recalled the sequence. I installed the head recently, and i know after a few warm ups and cool downs, you should check the torque again.

Of course, being myself, i instead threw the head on, and drove up to San Antonio. It was making some clicking or snapping noise and i was very concerned. So i realized i hadn't retorqued the head. Turns out two bolts were loose, and now that i've torqued them down, the noise is gone.

I think it was gas escaping the cylinders.:S

Live and learn i suppose, good thing i picked a bullet proof bike, or it would've been gone long ago.

keep an eye on that head gasket for while....if you rode it a long ways that loose, might have compromised the gasket a little......

Precisely. Do it wrong and you could end up paying for it.
