Dangerous Gearbox (KZ1000P14) was created by Ruff
Hello KZRiders,
I'm the proud owner of a KZ1000P14 that I'm bringing back up. This weekend I discovered a serious problem after I dropped it on the right side at about 10 mph in the rain (faulty front pads+smooth front tire). The gearbox sometimes jumps into 1st gear when I'm free revving it in neutral. The first time it happened I was not on the bike and the kickstand switch is not functioning. The rest I leave to your imagination. The bike escaped without a scratch. It should be noted that I adjusted the APE Extra-disk Heavy Duty Clutch (courtesy Z1) to be aggressive shortly before the fall.
Any help with this gearbox mystery will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Ruff

PLUMMEN,
Your advice is appreciated. I'll update you on the outcome.
Are there anymore suggestions.
Here's a peek at my "Cop Bike".

hi,
You should also check out: autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/kz1000p/messages
It's a KZP group and they have alot of info on the Police bikes.
I have a 92 KZ1000P with the full fairing and bars etc.
That group has been very helpful whenever I had problems.
There is a doc in the "files" section of that site about fixing a sloppy shifter assy. You may want to review it...
have fun on your KZP!
Bill

Hello fweep,
I'll check out the link and recommended document, however I'm using a universal shifter on my bike. I will soon install the "heel and toe" setup with a new Gear Change Lever as shown below.
Thank you,
