Hey Guys,I replaced the fuel filter and checked the spark
plugs.no.1-rich,no.2-good,no.3-lean,no.4-good.Ive tried
all three grades of fuel,it seems to do best with 89 octane.
I tweaked the carbs, it runs good but still pinging but not
as bad.Im gonna borrow or buy a timing light this week and
check the timing,Im convinced thats the problem.I still
need valve clearance checked and adjusted if needed and
check head torque. If anybody knows a good kz mechanic in the
Houston area please let me know.A special thanks to all with
their great responses, I truly appreciate it.Ill keep you
guys posted what I find out. Thanks again, Roadsoul

I would check the float heights too.

I vote a second on checking the floats but go for fuel level in the bowls, instead of float height. It's more accurate.

There's a lot of not so good fuel out there. Treat your bike to the best stuff you can get at the pump.

Hey guys,I finally found someone with a timing light and the timing was off a little, reset timing and it runs little
better but the ping is still there but not as bad.My next
step is check float service level as suggested by others
in this forum.I want to have some other work done but I cant
find anyone in the houston that works on old kzs.So if any body in the area knows someone please let me know.I also
ran ring free fuel additive thru the fuel system to bust up
carbon up,seems to have worked pretty good. Thanks Guys!!

1982 KZ1000 P1 23000 Mi.it was in police service for 22 yrs.I think it
spent most its life parked. It has some battle scars but is corrosion free and spotless. It was decommisioned
with 14000 Mi. What a sweet ride!!
