Timing alignment help needed was created by KAWAMIKIE
I got a shim and tappet for my bike now I need to confirm the cam timing is correct. It's on my 1981 KZ1000 LTD.
I searched but came up empty, only found it for earlier models.
If you could provide a link to it or post the info I'd appreciate it.

Not sure about your bike but I would do a search for a downloadable MANUAL for your model. There was a few threads that had mega manuals.

I'll be watching as this is what I need to know also. Where did you get the parts?

Look at this thread for info on a shop manual download. It clearly shows how to set the timing.

I got the shim from my local Kawi dealer. I got a 2.65, that's what the broken one measured. I was able to clean up my existing tappet. This is just a temporary fix. I want to get the bike running and ride it to check how the trans works. Then I'll tear the engine down for rebuild and mods.I'll be watching as this is what I need to know also. One thing that I didnt notice when I was doing the cam
timing is that manual says 44 pins with the pin the ex arrow is pointing at being 0.
Also the torque spec for the cam cap bolts is to high. Be carefull they strip real easy.
