My 77 KZ650 has always had a lower end clunking noise,Sounds like the HYVO chain slack. I hear its a common noise,?or is it.And how bad are they.At what point do you get concerned? It makes alot of noise when cold and at a low Idle.(under 1100rpms) It will make noise if you lug it. Once warm it only clunks a little at about 950rpms.Only has 10,000 miles on the engine. After I replaced the points and did the timing it got a lot softer. Ran better.

And will likely get even softer and quieter after a good carb sync. B)

Good Luck! :)

+1 on the carb sync. If that doesn't totally remove the noise try bumping your idle speed up just a touch. 950 on the tach may not be an actual 950 rpm, these gauges are faaaarrrr from being dead on accurate.
