Irishwill...it is a 1981 J series motor. Unfortunately, Kawasaki had a habit of pulling motors from a shared pool of engines and using them in a number of different models. That series of motors went into 1981 KZ1000J1, 1981 KZ1000K1 and 1981 KZ1000M1 bikes...without getting specific on what the motors look like, it is not possible to tell which model the motor went into based strictly on motor VIN.

Someone should chime in that knows for sure, but by the numbers logically it would be a KZ1000J engine, 1100th whatever in the run, so by all indications it would be a 1981 KZ1000J engine.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Mcdroid is correct its from a kz1000j1 from 81 if im reading this correctly.

the vin # on the bike it is in is JKAKZBR12EA000566
I believe this is an '84 1100R....
now I have 2 motors with it the one in it is the serial number I posted earlier....so if I am getting this right it is the wrong motor for the bike?

Yes, it should be a ZX1100 motor in the bike in the series mentioned by kano... KZT10BEXXXXXX
