Oil Light ON - What the heck Please help was created by KOOL RYDER
Gentlemen:

I just did the WG power mod on the bike and it has rained here for 4 days straight. This morning I went to start the bike (first time since monday) and the oil light was on.
I checked the oil window and I have oil up to and just under the top level mark and the oil is circulating (I can see that in the oil window).

What could the problem be? I have not fooled with the oil filter / changed oil. The light is just on. I have not had this problem before.

What could it be? Other than that after firing up the bike it worked fine. But seeing the oil light on I sht the bike down just in case.

Any ideas?

Check to make sure the wire off the switch isn't grounding anywhere. I had that problem with my 650 and it was just the connector from the wire hitting the back of the points plate and grounding out.

Thanks for the help so far. Just for your info, we did have the points plate off to adjust the timing and points, one wire was freyed going to the 1/4 points side and we solidered it.

Can you please provide me additional information on where the problem is occuring under the points plate, such as where the possible ground would be?

Ie. Where is the switch and where is the wire off of the switch connected?

How old is your Oil Sending Unit? Sometimes they will stop working before they start Leaking oil. Rain will reak havic on older connections, I live on the coast with alot of continuing moisture. Electric connections are checked often to ensure proper voltage and no corrosion. Just a few Ideas.

Thanks again. I am still looking for a diagram that will show where the possible ground will be under the points cover. I would like to ride the old girl this weekend so any help would help.

Here's a pic. Hope it helps.

The Oil Pressure Sending Unit is just under the timing plate. See lower right, where the Blue/Red wire disappears under the timing plate. Remove the plate to look for a short.

Best of success. :)

I'd check the switch first, if it works you most likely have a short. If it doesn't work you aren't spending a time looking for a short that may or may not be there! :)

Problem solved. I guess when we had the points plae off we must have pulled the wire a little and it became partially separated. Fixed the problem in 3 mins.

Thanks for the help.
