RTV on Side cover gaskets or No?

I Received my left side cover gasket for my 1978 kz200 yesterday. Im wondering if I need to use rtv on either side of the gasket before I put it install the left side case cover?

This is a wet side on this bike.

So...Thin film on both sides of the gasket or put it on without it?

Thanks

I used a film of the black ultra high temp gasket maker stuff on mine. Theoretically, you shouldn't need it, but I hate oil leaks.

You shouldn't need any thing if you have gasket. If you do use some use a small amount. dont want to clog any oil passages

never use rtv silicone where it can get to the internals of your engine.it can and will plug oil passages.use 1104/1194,yamabond,kawabond etc.,they are the same.

I use my favorite Permatex Aviation Gasket sealant. Its a alcahol based black goo that stays pliable and keeps oil in and water out. Has a brush aplicater and easy clean up.Sorry about my spelling. I cant no how to spel:lol:

Permatex Copper gasket spray....

Crap is Magic and your gaskets don't seem to bake/stick to the engine case surfaces after being run for awhile....

Just spray both sides of your gasket a couple thin coats and after a couple of minutes flash time to become tacky, install....

I used this on my cylinder & head gaskets as well... Not one leak what so ever.... ;)

I've not tried the Copper spray. Looks interesting.

My recommendation is Parmatex Black gasket sealer. It remains pliable and doesn't require a BFH and BFC to open your cases again.
