Clutch Slippage or Electrical Problem? was created by Bullitt03737
Just dialed in my carbs and synced them up real good and it runs super smooth idles real good etc.

Fix one problem only to find another.. Now that the bike is making more power based off of my buttdynamoter when I rev her out wide open and it hits about 6K it sputters real bad and dosent want to go.. It was doing this before I synced the carbs but it wasnt anywhere near as bad..

Is this the clutch slipping? or A coil leaking and cutting spark energy? How do I go about figuring this one out?

Doesn't sound like a slipping clutch, that wouldn't equate to anything like sputtering.

Assuming that your ignition is not at fault, I wonder about your mixture. What do your plugs look like?

Last time I checked them before messing with anything they were a light tan to black. But not like excessivly black. It dosen't blow black smoke or anything.

I know its time for a rebuild at least on the heads, it will burn some oil after sitting for a few days.

I did notice that when I took it apart (valve cover to fix an oil leak) that one of the brackets dug into the coil and has cracked it right next to a terminal for the power feed/coil trigger wires.
