1980 G1 Engine Question

Hey all you G1 owners, I am trying to clean up my engine and it looks like the PO painted the valve cover silver.

I know that the ends are chrome, but what is the rest of the valve cover like in the original state? it is polished aluminum?

I have a G1 here in the UK which is in great condition except that the previous owner has polished most of the aluminium parts as the chrome was peeling a little.
In short I don't know but can't see that it matters a great deal.

the whole valve cover was chrome or just he very ends?

just the ends on mine are chrome. would look better all chrome though.

Sorry I didn't see your post earlier Dale, I've been busier than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest here lately and haven't spent much time online. To answer your question the entire valve cover should be chromed from the factory but as Roy pointed out the chrome they came with was not the best quality. If you really want the chrome on aluminium to hold up well it needs to be triple plated.

Looks like it's going to just be a clean up for me. Not the best look because it won't polish up evenly.
