Getting ready to shim valve clearance into spec, but confused on what spec that is. Have heard varying input on what to shoot for...

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

All 4 intakes are currently .051 (a couple are loose .051's)

#2&3 exhaust are .051 and #1&4 are .000

Pulling shims tonight to identify what is in there and what I need to get. But what am I really shooting for??? Between .10 and .15 ????

Follow the instructions on the sheet.... Lower right hand corner... Click on the image to enlarge... Or right click on the image to save to your computer...

Spec is .002" - .004" (.05mm - .10mm)

Try to shoot for .004" on intake and .004" - .006" on exhaust. You want the exhaust a thou or two looser than the intakes...

FSM specifies .05~.10 mm (.002~.004 inch).

Good Luck! :)

Thanks for the chart but I believe it confused me more :) So to clerify I am ordering correctly.

Examples: Intake is .051 with a 260 shim
Exhaust is .000 with a 260 shim

Order a 255 intake to increase clearance to .10
Order a 250 exhaust to increase clearance to .10

When I look at that chart it looks as if I am buying bigger shim which would decrease my clearance.

The chart assumes wear which (I believe) should mean that your clearances increase and therefore would require larger shims. So with an existing 2.60 shim and .051 clearance it is reading as within the spec range.

You can't really do a chart for no clearance (your 0.00 clearance) since you have to adjust to a smaller shim before you are able to measure the needed clearance.

It sounds like a place to start, you may have to order again depending on the actual clearance needs of the ones with a 0.00 reading currently.
