has anyone ever put a 1170 kit or a 1262 kit in a KZ1100 what size cams would you go to and where would you start with the jetting with a good header pipe, head work, porting work and so forth,i want to do this in the fall so the bike ain't laid up no more this summer,i was wondering what kind of power gain to expect, and should i get the crank welded

Ted

Before you jump into anything, you need to decide how you want the power delivery. The cam is going to be key in that decision.

i was told from a guy here i met at a bike nite not to go over a 420 cam for the street, and actually i would probally put the 1170 kit in it,i don't need anything more than that to be honest with you i am not so sure it ain't cammed already the way it lopes, but i can't really figure that being a bagger bike

With the 1170 kit your sleeves will get very thin and you take the risk of the lowers dropping into your engine. Anything past that you mist re-sleeve and bore the cases. Anything past .400 lift cams you will have to start rebuilding your head even on the late "Bathtub" head which came out in 83 on the GPZ and continued on the "Specter" Once you go past 1140, be prepared to start poring in the money. The best choice is to go with a 1140 cylinder and a good port job and a Web-Cam #110 grind www.webcamshafts.com/pages/motorcycle/ka...ta/tc_1731_2567.html The pistons I chose are MTC 74mm J pistons. www.mtceng.com/index.php?page=shop.produ...virtuemart&Itemid=60 It will give you a good, treatable, reliable motor without the price tag going into the multi thousands. Have Larry do a good port job on your head and you will have a bike that will kick "A" and give you a lot of reliable years. You will also have to spend a few hundred bucks on a appropriate carburetor rebuild to work with this setup or a couple-few hundred on a set of smooth boars. I prefer the rebuilt BS34s, mine work fantastic at a fraction of the cost.

THE FOLLOWING KITS ARE FOR USE WITH J-MODEL AND GPZ STYLE ENGINES
KAWASAKI J MODEL, EARLY GPZ ('81-82)
17MM WRIST PIN AND FULL HEMI STYLE HEAD

Ted, this is it. However, if you have a shaft drive, you might have the 18 mm pins

Hi Ted
I just sent you a PM. I think this is the thread you mentioned in your PM to me. but I am not sure. I am presuming this is a KZ1100A1 Shafty. This bike is nothing more than a 1000CSR with a drive shaft and 100cc more displacement, to counteract the power robbing affects of the shaft.
