Oil Filter Location KZ 200 '78 was created by EGMan
I'm a new owner of a '78 KZ 200. I'm trying to do some tune up work to get my new bike running. I don't have a manual and can't seem to find the location of the Oil Filter so I can change the Oil. I've checked some of the parts fiches, but I can't find which case/cover to remove to get to the filter. Another problem is some of the screws are locked-on and I'm having trouble removing the cover without stripping the screws. any insight would be helpful.

This is a surprisingly tough one to answer EG. The parts fiche's don't give you a clear picture and I couldn't find a free manual download for your bike. I'm guessing the filter is behind the right hand engine cover at the top and towards the front. I'm thinking it slips through that circle under the #14 on the gasket (see the parts fiche here: www.cmsnl.com/kawasaki-1978-kz200-a1_mod...partslist/48799.html ) If you look carefully at where the parts fiche locates the oil filter, that seems to be in the vicinity of where its at: images.cmsnl.com/img/partslists/oil-pump...ar094348800_115e.gif

Frozen screws can be removed with an impact driver, which can be bought fairly cheaply at Harbor Freight or an auto parts store for about $5-$15: www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=93481

Hope this helps.

Well EG, Cychotic is correct. Strangely enough, you aren't the first to ask this question on this forum as it isn't intuitively obvious how to change the oil on these bikes. You must pull the right side engine cover and the right side pedal (I actually have the owners manual for your bike and this is what it states). Careful with the gaskets, while you are at it. :)

Thanks Cych, and Mcd. I appreciate your responses. I'll pick up one of these impact drivers before I get started. The fiche are starting to make a bit more sense. I'll post my results. Thanks for the insight.
