Does anyone know what (mm) size cable and cable ends a KZ1100 clutch cable would use. I would like to order the cable, ends, and all that stuff...but I dont have a caliper to measure the OD of the cable.

Z1E may have the clutch cable available off the shelf.

An able to suggest a shorter cable if needed for the modified handlebars.

Good Luck. :)

I had custom cables made for My GPz1100 I have very low bars on them and the stock would always bind. I just called Motion-Pro and I had them in a couple of weeks. I just told them what cable I had and how much "too long" it was and they took care of the rest. They know exactly the ends to use and the free length for the particular bike. Motion -Pro are in the cable business, and they had someone that could talk to me who knew these vintage bikes.

I second the call to Motion Pro...

They were able to make a conversion set for me to mate the Mikuni RS to the Zephyr throttle assembly.

Once you have requested a cable they do not stock a part number is tagged to it for future orders if needed.

Good luck.

WOW you guy were right. I called them and 40 bucks...that aint to bad... Here's a good question how do you measure accurately the length of cable you need. I thought about taking some string and routing it from the clutch to the up to the handle, and measuring the distance.

Imo it would be better to use an old cable rather than string.

The sheath length must be sufficient.
The additional exposed inner cable length should be remain a fixed constant regardless of sheath length.

It would likely be less expensive to purchase a shorter off-the-shelf cable from a similar model with lower bars (such as the shorter KZ1000-D2 cable onto a KZ1000-A, KZ900 or Z1 where shorter and/or lower handlebars have been fitted).

Z1E will likely have such alternate-use cable info readily avilable. And eliminate any risk of using the wrong dimensions for a custom cable. And receive it in one or two days.

I believe Z1E once offered Motion Pro custom cables, but no longer see a reference to that on Z1E's website.

Good Luck! :)

New off-the-shelf at Z1E is about $16.

Cables aren't easily modified successfully, due the difficulty in properly attaching the end pieces.

The old fashioned "spread and solder" technique is no longer a first class fix, imo.

Good Luck! :)

Motion Pro sells "sorta OEM" cables for the old KZ's. I got a clutch cable for mine that was the same as OEM except about ten inches longer that stock. It does work but you have to do some creative routing behind the down pipes.
