horse power question... was created by concrete kawboy
i have a 1980 ltd 1000. the p/o put on pod filters and a kerker 4-1 header with a kerker pipe with no baffles. he also had it jetted and it runs great like this. what kind of horsepower gains if any did those mods bring it from stock setup. if anyone knows, id appreciate it. thanx

Never had my kz on a dyno, but I did have my old 93 GSXR on before and after similar mods. My before numbers were 118 rwhp. After putting on a very minimally baffled V&H 4-1 exhaust and K&N pods (along with appropriate jetting) she spun 126 rwhp. On that bike I gained 8 hp, or about 6.8%

im gonna make a fearless forecast of around 95-96hp if the rest of the motor is in decent shape.put the endcap back in that kerker and youll gain bain back a lot of your low end response

I was going to guess a maximum gain of maybe 5 - 10% over stock. The stock bikes are tweaked up pretty fine to begin with, not a lot to be gained. BTW, on mine the extra power in the mid range I got was offset by a loss in low end torque. YMMV

As Emily Letila would have said "What's all this fuss about horsepowder?" Here's a good place to learn everything we need to know about horse powder.

I don't know about 95HP at the wheel with a stock 80 Z motor. I'd say maybe 70 - 75 at best.
Street ported 1075 with drop in cams & 29's generally push in the 105 neighborhood, SAE.

You'll get a whopping 65 RWHP on a good dyno.

One of my customers put his on the dyno with 29's and a yosh pipe. 74HP
Then he went 1075, 110 Webs, same carbs, same pipe and I did a street port head for him. 105HP - 77lbs/ft
A 1015 with 118 Webs, 29 Keihins, Kerker, street port job made 82HP with very fat jetting and very few miles on the bike. That should rise to probably 90HP with proper jetting.
Every now and then, you'll come across a stocker that really runs hard. Greg's 65HP number is about the norm. Glad to see people living in the real world
I can't speculate on numbers for this particular bike. One thing I wouldn't do is ride behind the guy.
