They along with RC were very popular in the late '70's, early '80's but you would see many more Kerkers!

Actually, HP gains from adding a 4into1 system only provided fractional increases in power. True increases in power come from serious engine work and carburation changes. Many manufacturers of 4into1 systems claim measurable increases in power and there is some truth in this but those increases, as mentioned, are fractional. So, what it comes down to in a 4into1 system, is looks and sound. There are a number of threads on this site about pipes and I encourage you to explore them. I have four different systems...MAC, V&H, Bassani, and Kerker...I like the looks of the Bassani and Kerker the best...those are the most expensive (of the ones I have, [Yoshimura pipes would also be in that top tier of aftermarket pipes]). There are also other pipes I have no experience with (e.g. Star, RC, etc.). I think you see lots of Kerkers because Kerker and Kawasaki was (is) a marriage...like peanut butter and chocolate :)

Yes, the two companies had a bond and Kerker pipes seemed to always look better on Kaw's than on other makes. Not sure why. 4 into 1's probably didn't give as much power as hyped, but they did give quite a weight savings compared to the stock exhaust. Also remember that Kerker was making pipes when Vance and Hines were still working for Russ Collins at RC Engineering. Regardless of price, between a V/H and Kerker, I'd go with the latter on looks and sound alone. I currently have a V/H and a Yosh for my KZ900 project. Would love to get a Bassani, Kerker, RC, Hooker...........:)

McDroid, which of your pipes do you think sounds the best?

1977 Kawasaki KZ900A5
1975 Honda CB550K
1996 Ducati 900SS CR

I can't answer the question as I have not run the Bassani yet (it was an amazing eBay deal (US$89.00) but lacks a baffle). However, the sound of a Kerker on a kawasaki is one of the sweetest of all sounds...
