Crank case: Sealant or no Sealant? was created by mjkawa
Hello all, I am about ready to close up the crank case on my 77 kz650, and I was wondering if anyone would recommend any type of sealant? Or no sealant? This is the one seal w/o any gasket. I really dont want to have to go this deep again, just to fix a messy oil leak.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

three bond 1104 is the product i always use also some people use loctite 515 flange sealant i'm not a fan myself it is a bit on the messy side. 1104 doesn't harden so it has some give on surfaces that get a lot of heatcycles and it is great on alloy parts cleans up easy to and wont squish out like silicone will also it is oil resistant. it is available at most bike shop's

I have always used Yamabond when splitting cases and I have never had a leak ;) I get mine at my local Yamaha dealer. The dealer told me that the Harley guys buy it by the case. :P three bond 1207b and yamabond 1207b and kawibond 1207b and suzukibond 1207b are all the same. just different packaging.

ThreeBond 1104 is my choice too - I believe they renamed it to 1194 some time ago.

6 bucks a tube + s/h from Z1E - one tube is more than you need.

The mechanics at the Kawi dealer shop told me they use 3-bond for that. That's the sealer to use on something that won't come apart again for at least ten years and you NEVER want to see leaking oil.
