i'll try this again..seem to be having trouble getting any replies..bike was not engaging 2nd gear at all while traveling...now..from a dead stop i could engage 2nd and it would stay...so..pulled the engine and pulled the shift drum and forks...forks seem to be fine but i will mic them..however shift drum has about an 1/8 inch of metal missing from a corner grove...just happens to be the corner that engages 2nd gear..makes sense right??i can see most of my engagement dogs on 2nd and have a very..very small amount of wear around the edges from it rubbing slightly...anyone have a pic of a worn dog???doesn't seem to be enuff to effect mine considering i can get 2nd from a stop...sorry for the long post...

The dogs may be OK but check the engagement slots that the dogs fit into on the gear face - lots of Kaw 2nd.gear troubles seen with this symptom. Rounded off dogs are bad but worn slots is worse.

GRC (Stan Gardner in Maine) or FBG (Fast By Gast in NY) can fix it if that's what's actually wrong.Hope this helps & good luck.

B, In my experiance any wear in shift drum worm trails is bad. shift forks only need 1 missed shift to bend and can be out of spec without exibiting obvious wear. whemn in doubt, replace. my 2 cents G
