I searched this subject, and as there was A LOT of info on it, it became quite apparent that it really depends on your specific set-ups and riding styles so.............Are the APE K410 cams the right choice for me?

MTC 1075 10.5-1 pistons.
3 angle valve job with Stage 1 port and polish, APE springs and guides.(15-20% advertised flow increases)
WiredGeorge Mikuni BS34 carbs.
Dyna 2000 ignition.
Vance and Hines 4 into 1 exhaust.
Ape slotted 32 tooth cam sprockets.

This bike will be a 99% daily rider with a 1% probability of dropping a tooth on the front sprocket and taking it to the local drag strip on "open" nights.

Any suggestions on cam timing would be greatly appreciated as well. Thank you for your help gentlemen.

MTC 1075 10.5-1 pistons, 3 angle valve job with mild port and polish. V&H 4 into 1 pipe. Mikuni BS34 Carbs. Dyna 2000 ignition.

For a 1075 motor they are just a little too big in my book. You would have to do some serious porting to make them perform to their capabilities. I would go just a bit smaller like in the 390s or so.

74 Z1-A stock
76 KZ-900 Totaly stock vice MAC pipe
77 KZ-1000A stock
78 Z1-R 100%MINT 500 original Mi.
78 Z1-R Yoshi 1103 kit stage 1 cams Yoshi pipe. Etc
79 KZ-1300 (1400)
80 KZ-1300
81 Scratch built GPz1150R
82 KZ1000

Your best choice would be the Web-Cam #119 or #110 grinds for an every day commuter with a stock head.

Yours is exactly the combo those cams are designed for. We sell 1075 "street Racer" engine kits that come with those cams. It is one of the most popular engine kits ever sold for the KZ.

I, too run the A P E .410 cams on a 1075cc kit. These are the cams recommended by A P E for this setup. I have yet to test them, as I am currently setting up the carbs. Dale Walker has a video out there that teaches you where to time the cams. I have a copy. I can probably help you out. Just drop me a line here, or at Wtrackerman@yahoo.com. From what I have heard the set up that you have got and the one I am working on is supposed to be the perfect set up for this bike. I have heard from others that the thing will make great power, and be a formidable and well respected street rod, even by today's standards.

The APE K410 is a great camshaft.
If you had Wiseco 72mm pistons rated at 10.25:1 compression then I would agree with everyone else that it is the best camshaft for your setup.
However, you have MTC pistons rated at 10.5:1 compression.
Compression ratios can be very confusing since every piston manufacturer has their own way of calculating them.
I have attached a picture of a 72mm MTC piston and a Wiseco piston side by side the MTC piston is on the left.
As is clearly visible, the MTC piston is going to have a far higher compression ratio regardless of who calculates it than the Wiseco.
Check your cranking compression using a standard compression gauge and the starter motor.
My guess is that your motor will be over 200 psi.
That is way more than 10.5:1.
If you were to install the PSP-3X camshaft which has very long duration (282 degrees at .030" lift, along with .418" total lift) it would not only drop your cranking compression in the neighborhood of 165 psi but it would give you phenominal performance throughout the RPM range.
Pit Stop Joe
By the way, it sounds like I did your head and cylinder.

Cleared up some things for me too, I've got an MTC 9.5 kit and a Wiesco 10.5 kit of the same bore size here and kept thinking the MTC kit looked to be more domed but wasn't sure, the domes are of different shape. Now I'll cc them to see which has the higher volume.
