Zinc (ZDDP) For Your Oil: EBAY #170322181084 was created by bountyhunter
You can buy it in a bottle and add it to the oil if your oil doesn't have enough.

www.zddplus.com/

I wish I had a reference that told how much ZDDP was currently in the various name brand oils.

ADDED 5/29: The price on ZDDP Plus is $10/bottle + shipping. I found an ebay item #170322181084 where you can get six bottles for $49 with free shipping in case anybody else wants some.

I tried to post this info in a separate new thread but the server here crashed for the tenth time tonight.

Thanks for the link. Since I like to run synthetic oils which have no ZDDP in them I plan on buying a bunch. Since having more than required will not hurt the engine and too little is better than none, I plan on using 1/2 bottle for every 4 quarts. After all it is $10 a bottle plus shipping.

The holy grail of oil discussions. Have fun, you can check the UOA's for current amounts of zddp in the various oils.

I am not 100% certain that is correct. I recall researching it and I vaguely remember that if the concentration gets too high it forms deposits in the combustion chamber? maybe somebody else knows about that, I just recall that about 2000 ppm was the sweet spot and going significantly higher had some possible negative aspect. But, with the old engines with camshafts like the KZ's, having no zinc will wear them out very quickly. So, too little is way worse than too much.

There are references on the internet that show this, but BEWARE - all the tables I found that show a comparison between the various brands are old, They do not show the current ZDDP levels after the poil comapnies changed their formulas. The good news is, if you go to the web site of the oil companies and search a bit you can usually find the levels. For example, Castrol GTX removed all ZDDP (see Castrol answer to question2). Mobil-1 Racing 4T 10W40 oil has 1600 PPM (parts per million) which is the highest I've found.
see Mobil .

Other companies generally have the current info, but it may be a little hard to fin.
