I have polished ali the covers, ststor clutch valve covers ect. I had the entire engine plastic blasted, including covers. The plastic blasting left the entire engine a medium gray, as I said I removed and polished everything but the case, cyclenders, the basic engine unit. what can I use to brighten this section of the engine ?

Sorry there is no easy answer to your question id use a corse rubbing compound that will get it a little lighter grey when you get it pretty smooth i like to use mother aluminum polish and a power ball it will take you a while but it will do a good job hope this helps

Try SOS pads and water.
Be careful with chemical brighteners. You can stain the motor if it's left on too long or it dries on you in the sun.
If you haven't assembled the motor yet, you could try having the cases and block soda blasted. That will help somewhat. I blasted these first with plastic, then with soda.
After the soad blast, SOS pads and water will leave a nice finish on the cases. Patience and elbow grease are your friend

If you have the time and patience, S100 Total Cycle Finish Restorer or X-treem polish both work very well.

Steel wool works for me. Check my profile pics. Don't use Mothers etc, the aluminum is porous so that stuff is hard to get out once it's in.

The problem with all of these methods is that the components will just corrode again. I would just paint the cases, head, jugs with Polane. A pint should be enough to paint two or more. I will be painting my GPz1100 engine top end in a Titanium color. I believe that most engines that came from Kawasaki were painted. Painting will not hold in any more heat than polishing the engine.

I used a fine wire wheel on my drill for big areas and dremel tool for more detail then I got some gun cleaning brushes in differnt sizes for in between fins. I couldnt get picture to load but there are a couple of photos in my gallery. Indymick

I sure can't speak for most engines, but my KZ650 engine wasn't painted when I bought the bike new. Using the s-100 or X-treem polish the engine stays shiney for a couple years (this may be because it's never been corroded, so there's no pitting, etc.). Anyway, it is a time consuming task - not to be completed in one sitting, but with beer and music it's a good winter time indoor task. Ed

I'm in AZ so maybe it's a little different here, but no problems with the steel wool. Every once in a while I'll hit it with the #0000 again (takes about 10 minutes and then I hit it with the yard blower to get rid of the debris etc... Works good.
Since you already have everything blasted it may be a fairly quick process for you. I started from scratch, and it took a looooonnnnggg time.
