i have a 1980 kz1000. the bike has white smoke coming out of the exhaust when it is warm. it has pod filters and a kerker 4-1 header with no baffles. i dont know if it has been jetted or not. also it has the low emissions head and the valve cover is leaking exhaust around the #4 emission port. could the smoking just be that the carbs need to be jetted, or do you think it is rings/ valves. the bike has 30,000 miles on it. it runs pretty good, but it seems to stumble on hard excelleration and at high rpms. hope someone has some info for me. thanx.

My KZ 1000 79 always puffs white smoke like BOB Maley did when I start it afer it has been sitting for awhile and under hard acceleration.

Also when it rains.

I would check the spark plug on #4 to see what it can tell you. Is it oily, or carbonized?

You may need to replace your exhaust crush ghasket on the #4 pipe.

Anyone else?

I would also check the compression and valve clearances.
