Long story short, have a running issue with my twin, found that the valve clearance is off. Searched through dennis kirk, z1 enterprises, old bike barn, japanese wintage motorcylce parts and the dealer and cant find the shims. Does anyone know of where I might get these shims: .280, .285 and .290? if anyone has some theyed like to get rid of or know where I can get them that would be a life saver. Thanks

I see a few 750 twin shims on ebay now and then for about $20 each and they are usually the goofy oddball sizes nobody wants (either the thinnest or thickest range).

You might be able to find a kawi dealer who will swap you some for the ones you have.... or your local dealers may be grade A holes like the ones around here and refuse to give you the time of day. They have shims, but they don't always share them.

I wish I knew where to get twin shims, but they don't exist.

I checked Z1 and they currently have the following sizes for the 32 mm shims:

2.60
2.65
2.70
2.75
2.95
3.00

If push comes to shove, you might have a machine shop work your valve seats and valve stem lengths to get them into range so these shims would work.

For example, if you have a valve that "shims up" at .280 - .290, they can cut the seat a shade deeper and it will shim up with a slightly thinner shim. A good machine shop can control valve heights to a thousandth of an inch... I know, because when they did my twin's head I gave them the head, a bag of new valves and the shim sizes each valve was set up for and the shims available. They hit every one within one or two thou of target.

If my old brain still works, the 750 twin shims are 32 mm diameter. Construction is case hardened steel (surface hardened) not sure how deep.

Yeah, I see some on ebay every now and again but they usually run around $20 each with shipping (too expensive to buy just for back up stock). Z1 has some sizes available for a lot less money. But, if you really need one, $20 is what you're going to pay.
