An interesting little tidbit of info. Look at the part # tag on this seal. You see that 0002-60-89? What that means is the seal carried a suggested retail price of $2.89 with a 60% dealer markup so dealer cost was $1.80 That's like 1/3 what the latest suggested price was on that seal. Any idea how old this new seal is at that price? Probably close to 30 yrs old. Probably work just fine, but everyone comments on seals "drying up". Must be pretty dry in this case.

The crank end seals are identical except for direction of rotation. I wonder if Kawasaki didn't intend to use the seal that is still an active part for both ends of the crank? I had the same issue and bought one from a NOS part store. The instock part cost me $5, the NOS seal on the otherhand was $14.
Main bearings are also fetching a premium, may get unreasonable to rebuild these engines if parts get much more expensive. I had nearly $300 in selas, gaskets, main and rod bearings, and rollers and springs in the starter clutch. Babitt's online beat my local Kaw dealer on most stuff.

that would make sense if they intend to use the same seal. I hear ya on the seals and "hidden expenses" im keeping all the reciepts so the next person that is thinking about a 650 to 810 swap will be well informed......not that it would have stopped me though!!! i hope to be riding her till im old and grey and the state takes my license.
