1981 KZ550 D1 (GPZ). Purchased the bike and had to pull head off to get exhaust studs drilled out and replaced. They were broken off by the previous owner. Put it all back together with a new head gasket. Cleaned up the pistons and aligned the cam gears. The bike starts right up but I notice that the exhaust on cylinders 1 and 3 is not getting warm, whereas 2 and 4 are too hot to touch almost right away. If I removed the plug wires from 1 or 3 the bike does not run at all and it is getting good spark so it is obviously firing. The bike has some obvious hesitation if I get on the throttle, but I've read enough from people with similar hesitation to attribute that to the podfilters on the bike when I got it. Any ideas what could be causing this or if I should be worried at all.

are the plugs wet in the clys that are cold? if they are not wet, a good carb cleaning is goning to be the place to start.

Thanks for the input and quick responses. No the pipes were not warming at all. Additionally the plugs looked bare like it wasn't firing at all. Turns out they weren't at least not on the intake half of the stroke anayway. It turns out my manual improperly labeled which wires go to which coil - my fault for not realizing it couldn't have worked that way. I changed it to Left Coil 2/3 Right Coil 1/4 and it fired right up. After it warmed up it rode like a champ. Not even an airflow issue with the podfilters. It should be noted the bike has 102 main jets instead of the stock 94. Only the main jets were changed.

The pic attached is with the forks draining and lacking a proper seat. Thanks guys!
