Has any one ever successfully repaired broken off cooling fins on a head? I don't have the broken off fins, the bike was that way when I bought it. Any Ideas?

i just acquired a head with a couple broken fins. Not too bad though. I was told and have seen a few successful jobs where people bought aluminum stock and JB welded a new fin piece into place. They can also be welded in by a good aluminum welder.

Had a friend *helping* me and knocked three fins clean off. Took it to a local welder who did a fantastic job, looked beautiful. Then he handed me the three pieces. I guess a good aluminum welder can stack beads to recreate the fin then grind them smooth.

If your in the Chicago area see Lion welding in Addison Il.

I have attempted to use this stuff on heads. The biggest problem is, getting the area hot enough to use it. Which I could never manage to do. I have tons of this stuff which I have used in the AC and refrigeration business.

Yeah, I would be scared to start torchin on it, I'd like to fix it on the bike, so cold methods are probably my only option, If I have to pull the head I'll just find a new one. thanks
