go with Weisco!! and set them up at 2.5 thou just like the instructions say!!

MTC will create huge positive crank case pressure and you'll have to empty your catch can very often especially with highway riding.

don't rally know why but it is very common to push oil out the case vent with MTC's
just saying from my first hand experience. i had to run less than 2.5 qts to stop it. not good for street riding

you'll be happier for spending the extra jack on weisco pistons.

And I would also like to restate the importance of surface finish. Most people gloss over that when talking to thier machinist. That has to be done right, and depends on the ring material, piston speed, and operating temperatuers. Wiseco reccomends a fine hone, and with good reaon. Make sure you get that right.

crap info here. power hone the last thou or ball hone after cutting is JUST FINE for the hard rings- any auto style machinist will know what to do!!

do not tell them how to do their job or you will be very sorry!! give them the pistons and the instructions and let it go at that.

I'd bet good money the guys that have many complaints about machinists insulted the machinist's intelligence with a power trip that a bike is different than a boat, airplane, or automobile piston cylinder surface finish.

blow-by is caused by improper ring seal not the type of pistons that you use.

Got a set of 1075 MTC pistons in my street bike and 1500 Wiseco in the dragbike. No problems with either and the MTC motor doesn't create the excessive crankcase presure mentioned previously, no filling the catch can.

The biggest problems I have seen, automotive, industrial, or otherwise in my expereince has been becasue the customer did not adaquately convey the correct information about the job. Don't assume anything. Asking a machinist what his intentions are before starting a job is not insulting, it's intellegent, You can't "uncut" steel. Well at least you can't do it cheaply.

Hi all,
I know that Wiseco is the leader in motorcycle pistons, however, I'm thinking of a big bore piston kit for my '79 KZ1000. There is a company out of Florida called MTC that makes a 1075cc big bore kit that is similar to the Wiseco kit for less $$. I cant find any good reviews about Wiseco vs MTC. Has anyone used both or does anyone have a preference? Thanks in advance!

i bought a set from this seller over the winter.10.5 to 1 1075 ....the kit i bought came with a set of jugs all ready to install....joe hooper does a good job..he put the rings on the pistons, end gapped them and etched under the skirts what pistons went in what holes...all i had to do was slap it together....i also had him go all throught my cylinder head....nice guy to deal with and great work.....i only have about 200 miles on my motor since, but feels real tight(good)and i dont know what above poster is talking about as far as blowby and catch cans...no blowby cause i followed his instruction sheet for ring spacing and who the hell has a catch can on their bike?...... never seen one......just my .02.....keith .....p s go with a fiber gasket...see if he will substitute that in place of copper
