KZ fuel injection
04 May 2009 14:03
How easy would it be to fuel inject a 79 mkII, if you had a set of throttle bodies off of a 1980 KZ1000 that was factory fuel injected. more specifically what kind of ECM could you use to run it? anyone have any experience playing with other bikes ECMs on KZs?

well it would be tough because the injectors go in the head on that bike, though i see the heads on ebay dirt cheap. i have that bike.(i screwed up the head and went to carbs) but you could use the 81 gpz fuel injection system without changing you head

Find a set off an 82 GPZ1100, Kawasaki moved the injectors to the throttle bodies to reduce overheating. Many guys are going the Mega-squirt way of FI.

how much hp will the gpz injectors support? i remember the injectors on my84 gpz being a pain but that was before all the aftermarket controllers came along

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

The Microsquirt is the ECU you want for that project.
www.diyautotune.com/catalog/microsquirt-c-35.html
D.F.I. throttle bodies and injectors are what you want so it's 82 - 85 GPz11 for those. Other, newer setups can be adapted.
The stock throttle bodies can be greatly improved in the CFM department. Pogue Machine in Oklahoma will, I believe, still do them. Get their adjustable fuel pressure regulator as well.
You'll need fuel pump, engine temp sensor, resistor pack and other assorted items. It's not a small project but it has been done by good number of people.
Before you start, sit down with the Microsquirt docs, read the forum links provided above and figure out exactly what plarts you'll need.
As I recall, Sid ran the stock injectors on up to 1428cc but had to use 2 fuel pumps.
Get yourself a copy of the Motorcycle Fuel Injection Handbook too. ISBN# 0-7603-1635-X

You really don't want that old analog stuff. The air gate setup has issues. Stick with DFI.
