ZN1100 cam chain noise?? was created by sg56k
Hi, I was wondering how to replace the cam chain guides on my 1100? I here the chain tinkling but the tensioner is not all the way extended so I thought maybe the guides are wore. The bike has 25k miles on it so far. Any help appreciated.:)

the head has to come off.
before you go to that extreme have you tried the ape manual tensioner yet?
if you decide that is your only option i would check your valve clearances while it's off and bench shim the head.
you might even want to think about new valvesprings if you willing to go that far.
but for me i would try the tensioner first.

someday i will be able to afford my kz habit.

The automatic cam chain tensioners on the "J" series motors are susceptible to a extremely high rate of failure. Virtually everyone replaces them with a manual tensioner from APE. They are available from Z1E in New York or from Pit Stop Performance in Orlando. Just ask anyone at ZIE (315-926-5054) or Joe at Pit Stop that you require a tensioner for a "J" engine. I just had to replace mine for the same reason.
