I have a line on a 77 KZ1000 LTD that was totally customized with a killer motor and has sat for 20 years.

I mostly want the motor, so do the KZ 1000s interchange?

I'd like to put it in an 80s J bike as a Superbike

you can do it but the mounts are a bit different so you might have to make up some new mounts but that should not be to much problem usally the swap is the other way round put the late model engine into the early frame but it can be done.
