millage whats high miles on a bike

on a 1979 kz 1000 what would be cnsidered high millage

How high is it I have a 76 900 with 28000 I have seen others on here with 40000+ It depends on how its taken care of and how hard its riden

My 1980 KZ 750 has over 48k and still running strong. Will be about ready for a top end rebuild right around the time I get done building the 77 1000

It really does depend on how previous owners took care of the bike, and how hard they've ridden it.

As a general guide, around 40,000-50,000 miles you find significant cam chain and idler sprocket wear on most engines. I know some folks have pushed the z1/kz motors over 100,000 miles - but that's the exception than the rule.

they are pretty tough really and if it is running good then you got some time left on it.........if it starts and runs good,,and makes little annoying-ticking noises,and smokes a bit when it is punched wide open or on start up for a few seconds,then it is probably like the rest ofall of em that are still running around .... in my opinion,under 18000 is a desirable point and would deserve a second look at getting -keeping, over 25-30,000 would raise a few eyebrows and knock the price down a tad....this is if both the lowewr and higher mile bikes were identical in appearance......jeffs answer is correct in wear figures also imo.....good luck and welcome.....craig

half the time my speedo's don't work from twisting off the inner cable from going a bit to hard so i go until i can't stand the smoke on start up , i pull the top end off and then get busy changing the way i have the head ported and replace the valve seals and redo the valve job and then i go again i always tell my self you need a new speedo cable but i always forget. so really i don't know how many miles or dragstrip passes or anything else about the motors other than my god they are so much fun to go hard and stupid with. by the way these engines are as tough as nails and super easy to work on last night i did a valve adjustment on my little drag bike in under an hour and i wasn't even going hard.

Not too shabby, but rumor has it wusses do it quicker using cam lobe instead of index finger to hold bucket down while inserting batwing. :laugh: :laugh:

My bike has over 30k miles, just cant remember the exact number offhand. Its not too beat up for that many miles and being 30 years old.

32290 first kick start no smoke. Compression and smoke at start up will tell the real story. You never know how many miles are on it. Because it could have been rebuilt or the clocks changed. My speedometer is off 7 to 10 miles an hour at 70 mph compared to my GPS. If I was going to spend alot of money on one I would compression test it first....rUSS

My 1979 had 500 miles on it when I bought it in 1983. 8 yrs later in 1991 had 80,000 and it's still 99% mint, so it is possible to put some mileage on these. Mine still has 80,000 now 18 years later. Good times on that motorcycle and it never let me down.
