- What did you do!?!
Just wondering, I've heard of people using a layer of liquid gasket maker between the oem dry gasket layers.
Is this recommended? Which gaskets? Would it help to prevent oil leaks?
I hope to have it together for quite some time
Cheers.

So I should assume that with a clean dry assembly, and proper torque, I shouldnt have to worry about leaks?

Theoretically, if the surfaces are perfect and flat and the gasket is perfect, it will seal. Of course, if you scratched something a bit scraping off the old gasket and have some fine scratches...... hence why I always use the sealer. Much easier than taking it apart again.Throwing my motor back together this week...

For gaskets you want to seal dead tight forever and never plan to remove again like the cylinder base gasket, yamaha 3-bond or similar is the best. That is what was on mine from the factory.
For most gaskets, I use a thin bead of the Ultra-Hi temp black gasket sealer. It seals strong but is easy to remove. The worst place for leaks is across the tops of the cam end plugs at the cover gasket joint.
Head gasket should be dry.

Remember 1215 from 3-Bond?
That stuff was great for gaskets. Especially on things like valve cover and clutch covers....You could pull the cover and the gasket wouldn't rip.
OEM J valve cover gaskets were a bastard. They'd always rip...stick to the head and the cover. Just added more time to doing a tune up. After getting that first miserable gasket cleaned up, we'd always put some 1215 on both sides of the new one and that ended that PITA situation on the next valve adjustment..
