exhaust half collars.

anyone know what year half collars i could possibly use for a v&h pips on an 82 kz1000 ltd..the stock ones which i have new are to short...i was thinking maybe ones from a 78??thanx for any info..

I'm not 100% sure on the 1000's but I do know that around 81 on the 650's and 750's Kaw started welding a piece that is about 1/2" long on the ends of the stock exhaust systems. This required half collars that were shorter than the earlier bikes. I'd say you are most likely correct that collars from an earlier 1000 would solve your problem.

yeah...that's kinda what i figured..now if i can find a used set with out having to order from mah kaw again...took two weeks for these to get in..and i'm on vacation in a week...

How short are they? You might be able to double up on exhaust gaskets to fill the space or get a thicker gasket. I know the ones on my Kz900 aren't very thick and Z1E mentions that some aftermarket exhausts require thicker gaskets to seal.
