slotted cam gears or stretched chain
05 Mar 2006 17:51
hello
im in the process of checking my vavle clearance and noticed my intake and exhaust marks are off 1/32 intake is low and exhaust is high when im at tdc. ive checked tdc with a indicator in the sparkplug hole and is correct on 1 and 4 or maybe alittle off but off in the same spot from the t mark. so is my chain maybe stretched or do i need to slot my cam gear. :S

Why would you have to ruin it just to measure the distance between twenty links? Just measure across the top.

I didnt understand at first either. Take the top roller off your head and you should be able to measure out the links. Ignore the arrow in this pic, but the top roller is just to the right of my finger.

I just went through all that last week.Looks like you rolled the crank shaft backwards and that is were all the slop in the cam chain came from.It took me a couple of tries to get the cams back in time but you have to be patient.I kept the chain tight from the exhaust cam to the crank and worked back to the intake cam.Make sure you have the 36 link count and contuine on with your assenbly. Good luck
