Bike jumps when put into first

Hi,

I'm looking at a KZ that has just had the clutch cable changed. It jumps when put into gear.

I don't know if this was happening previously.

Just an adjustment needed? Is there something I should be looking for?

yes the clutch cable or main adjuster will need to be adusted.try to find a manual it will show you the procedures involved there are 3 different adjustment points. two on the cable one on the motor the one on the motor is the main adjustment point, the cable adjustment are for fine adjustments at the lever you will need about an 1/8" free play .

Perfect I assume that all adjusters should mid range normally?

The manual explains best.the 1st adjustment is the clutch ramp/rod which is turn in til contact then backed off @ 1/4 turn then locked. 2nd is at cl lever adjuster, and can be set to center if desired, 3rd, adjust cable center adjuster to give @ 1/8 inch freeplay at lever. this one will vary with cl. plate wear & type. this should give a normal feeling lever. It's not uncommon for bike which have been sitting to lurch/bang when 1st put in gear, as plates tend to stick until broken free and recieve lubrication, hope this helps.G
