83 kz750 cam chain tensioner adjustment ??

i have a 1983 kz750 spectre and i was wondering if there is a way to reset the cam chain tensioner so that i know its right. I know you set the motor to TDC but the shop manual confuses me past this point. Any ideas ?? Thanks
