Timing - How do you reset the timing on a bike? was created by KOOL RYDER
Hey guys,
How do you reset the timing on a KZ 650?
The last time I had it in the garage it cost a pile of loot and the guy said,"your timing is advanced?"
What did he mean by that, and what would be required to set it back to spec?
If you couldn't tell I am as green as my avitars a#s.

It is very easy to do with an electronic ignition, but I can't help you with the factory points set up.
Doing it yourself will only cost you the cost of a timing gun (some as cheap as $20, but more likely a decent one will run you $60-100... but hell its a tool, so buy it use it and have it till you die....)
If you still have a points ignition this may be a good time to upgrade to either a used factory set up, or a dyna set up.

Buy a manual, and read up. they are cheap and will save you a ton if you have any mechanical ability at all. The factory ones are the best ,in my opinion.

Perhaps a good question would be, cam timing or ign, timing. if you spent a boodle, and valve shims were changed, a worn cam chain might come closer to spec by advancing exhaust cam a pin and timing intake to match. conversly worn points blocks usually require retarding plate to aquire proper timing. luck g
